2 What are plants like? Plants make their own food and are living things. Plants need water, minerals, air and sunlight. Plants are born, grow, reproduce and die. All plants have roots, stems and leaves.

3 Are all leaves the same? Round with a smooth edge
Oval with a smooth edge Needle-shaped with a smooth edge Heart-shaped with a toothed edge

4 What are the parts of a flower?
The sepals form the calyx. Petals form the corolla. The pistil has ovules inside. Stamens have pollen at the top.

5 How do plants reproduce?
An insect takes pollen from the stamen to the pistil. The pollen joins an ovule inside the pistil. They make a seed. The petals fall off and the pistil grows into a fruit. The fruit falls on the ground and its seed grows into a new plant.

6 How do plants make food? Leaves absorb sunlight and carbon dioxide
Roots absorb minerals and water Photosynthesis = minerals + water + sunlight + carbon dioxide = food + oxygen

7 How do we classify plants?
Trees have a big, woody stem called a trunk. Grasses have flexible green stems. Bushes have woody stems, but they don’t have a trunk. They have branches near the ground.

8 How do we classify plants?
Evergreen plants always have leaves. Deciduous plants lose their leaves in autumn.

9 How do we use plants? We get wood, rubber, cosmetics and food from plants. We also get thread, paper, flour and medicines.

10 How can we look after plants?
We should support national parks and collect rubbish. We shouldn’t step on flowers or cut down trees.

11 What have we learnt? Plants have three parts… roots stems leaves

12 What have we learnt? Plants can be… trees bushes grass

13 What have we learnt? Photosynthesis= water minerals sunlight
carbon dioxide food and oxygen
