A business letter is a formal way to communicate with a company or business.

4 Business Letter Rules In a business letter neatness counts (spelling and grammar). A business letter is organized in a very specific way, following an exact format.

5 Business Letter Rules A business letter is written in formal English (no slang or casual chat). All parts of a business letter are “justified” on the left side– meaning no indentation.

YOUR Return Address 2. Month, Date, Year 3. Name and title of the Person you are writing to 4. Address of the Person you are writing to 5. Formal Greeting; followed by a COLON! 6. State your Purpose and Give Details 7. Thank you for your time, etc… 8. Formal Closing– Sincerely, Regards, Yours truly, From - followed by a COMMA!

A friendly letter is a letter that you write to someone who is close to you; you know this person personally.

9 Friendly Letter Rules In a friendly letter, the set-up is a little different from a business letter. a. Not all parts are left justified. In a friendly letter, you may use slang and casual language.

10 Friendly Letter Rules In a friendly letter, you should still use good grammar and spelling.
