5 STD Facts: 1 in 4 girls age have an STD Nearly 1/2 of US high school students have had sexual intercourse 40% of those having sex have an STD The average age is 16(m) and 17(f). The average HS graduate has had 3 sexual partners 20% of girls who have had only one sexual partner have an STD….how?

6 How do they spread? So… 1 = 10!!!

7 HIV/AIDS HIV- Human Immunodeficiency Virus-
The virus attacks the T-cells and destroys them, attacking your immune system. Incubates for years with NO SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS….but, they’re still CONTAGIOUS AIDS- Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome Immune system is so declined and sickness developes. The body can’t fight off illness. Pneumonia Tuberculosis Extreme weight loss Severe Fatigue Flu

9 Fact or Fiction?! You can be born with an STD? STD’s can kill you?
You can go to the doctor to cure an STD? Vaccines are available for most STD’s? STD’s can make a person sterile/infertile (can’t have a baby)?

10 Before you go… Please take out your index card from earlier in class. On the back you will write down: 3 ways STD’s are harmful How getting an STD would change your life?
