5 Sexually Transmitted Diseases
86% of all STD’s occur among year olds. 5-10% of new infections are due to oral sex transmission. Ejaculation in the mouth, poor oral hygiene, brushing or flossing prior to sexual contact and oral irritations are associated with transmission.

6 2 Types of STDs Bacteria Caused
Chlamydia: Most common STD; most relevant among teens. Symptoms: (Male) burning sensation during urination. Puss dripping from the penis. Symptoms: (Female) 85% of the time-no symptoms. Abdominal pain. Bleeding between periods. Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) If left untreated? Can lead to Sterility Treatment? Tetracycline

7 2 Types of STDs Gonorrhea: The symptoms are similar to Chlamydia.
If left Untreated? A specific and severe form of arthritis. Treatment? Penicillin Syphilis: 3 stages Small bacterial canker type sore appears Rash on hands and feet, hair loss, flu symptoms. Up to 20 years later: Reactive stage. Attacks the brain (insanity) spinal cord (crippling) heart.

HPV (Human Papilloma Virus): Genital Warts on genitals and anus. Most commonly transmitted. NO CURE. Genital Herpes AIDS/HIV

9 Teens and Sex 7,742 teens become sexually active each day.
Teen girls are currently the fastest growing population being infected today. 1 in 6 Sexually active High School girls have at least 4 different partners. Teenagers LIE about their sexual activity. One Drink Increases by 2 ½ times risky sexual behavior.

10 HIV/AIDS HIV increased 40% in teens in the last 2 years HIV facts:
1 in 200 have HIV in the world 1 out of 250 has HIV in the U.S 1 person in the world dies from AIDS every 30 minutes. People Getting Infected Today: Heterosexual HIV transmission is the fastest growing means of infection in the world. The Person GIVING the oral sex (NOT RECEIVING) is at greater risk of getting HIV from an HIV positive partner.

11 HIV/AIDS 5% of HIV infected persons received the virus orally
If you took 4 people HIV+, only 1 of those 4 would know their status.

12 A life threatening disease, but a hard disease to catch.
ABC’s of HIV A AIDs: A life threatening disease, but a hard disease to catch. A blood-borne virus, HIV, present in significant amounts of blood, semen, and vaginal secretions of infected people, must get into a persons blood.

13 B ABC’s of HIV Behaviors:
It is specific behaviors that put people at risk for contracting HIV. Unprotected Sexual Intercourse with an HIV-infected person. Sharing needles or syringes with an infected person.

14 ABC’s of HIV C Choices: There are choices available that people can make to protect themselves from HIV infection: Abstinence: From Sexual Intercourse and Intravenous drugs are 100% safe and effective. Fidelity: Two people who are mutually monogamous, who are not HIV infected and who have never shared needles. (marriage) Condoms: For people who always and properly use latex condoms every time they have sexual intercourse, the risk is significantly lessened, but not eliminated. Use of a spermicide containing non-oxynol 9 adds to the reduction of risk.
