1 Parts of a Plant

2 The student will learn:
To identify the basic parts of a plant

3 Stem: Holds up the plant and its parts (support) above the ground.
has tiny tubes to transport water and nutrients to the entire plant.

4 Leaves: Make food (sugar) for the plant. (Photosynthesis)
Takes in carbon dioxide through tiny openings in the leaves. Also gives off oxygen.

5 Roots: Holds (anchor) the plant into the ground.
Takes in water and nutrients needed for the plant’s growth.

6 Flowers/Petals: The petals are the colored parts of the plant.
They attract insects/animals for pollination.
