1 Developing Finance Skills at Your Desktop
Presentation By: Ross Tomsett – Finance Manager

2 What is HFMA e-learning about?
Improving financial management is one of the biggest challenges that the NHS currently face and HFMA are working to change that. It is increasingly important for non-finance staff to get to grips with the finances and for them to update and develop their financial competence. HFMA have developed a suite of e-learning modules which are aimed at helping all NHS employees to improve their knowledge and understanding of NHS Finance.

3 What are the benefits of e-learning?
Flexibility – users are able to access the training at their convenience from any IPad, or PC via the Internet, at any time. Educational Content – the highest quality content to ensure learners develop knowledge, skills and competence in NHS Finance. Certification – evidence based assessments which can be used for CPD. User Friendly – the HFMA e-learning system is extremely interactive and easy to use with clear instructions. Support – HFMA provide technical support wherever needed.

4 Who can benefit? Non-finance and finance staff alike… Board Members
Budget Holders Senior Managers GPs GP Practice Staff CCG Staff In Short… EVERYONE!

5 The Modular Approach The HFMA e-learning has been broken down into easily manageable modules for each topic. There are 17 Introductory Modules targeted at both finance and non-finance staff. There are 2 Finance in Practice modules which are targeted at finance staff. Each module ties in with different levels of the KSF (relevant underpinning knowledge for the financial management dimension G4 at levels 1-3).

6 Introductory Modules Each Introductory Module takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete followed by a 30 minute online assessment. Each module counts toward 3 hours of CPD. These modules are designed for both finance and non-finance staff and offer a wide range of important finance themes.

7 Introductory Modules…
NHS Finance NHS Accounts NHS Budgeting NHS Charitable Funds NHS Governance NHS FT Application Process How NHS services are paid for NHS Receivables and Payables NHS Commissioning NHS Costing NHS FT Financial Regime NHS Cost Improvement Programmes NHS Primary Care Finance NHS Business Cases Internal and External Audit

You also get the opportunity to become an affiliate member of HfMA for one year free of change. Once you have completed the certificate this equates to 15 hours of CPD.
