6 Honors Academy Students interested in achieving the highest academic rigor at KP are encouraged to enroll in the Honors Academy. Participation is noted on school transcripts. Requirements (full list of requirements available in Program of Studies Enrollment in Honors Level courses in core academic subjects & at least 20 of the 32.5 elective credits 6 AP Courses: 3 required: AP English Language & Composition, AP Seminar, AP Research 3 Elective AP courses Community Service 50 hours Involvement in at least 2 extra curricular activities each year Completion of AP Capstone Project

12 Course Selection Timeline:
Students will receive course selection materials in early February. Students will have an opportunity to discuss course recommendations with classroom teachers, review Program of Studies online, discuss courses & course load with parents/guardians or guidance counselor. Course selection materials due the week before February vacation to the high school. Course selection does not guarantee course enrollment.

DEPARTMENTAL PHILOSOPHY: WE BELIEVE THAT ALL STUDENTS CAN SUCCEED. OUR ROLE IS TO HELP STUDENTS REACH THEIR HIGHEST POTENTIAL ELA Statistics of Success 98% of KP students achieved Proficient or Advanced on the 2017 MCAS Test 62% achieved "Advanced" compared to the state's average of 47% 155 of 334 students (47% of the Class of 2017) took AP English during their junior year. The average score for these students was a 3.4 out of 5 on the exam.   Almost half of the students (68) received a score of 4 or 5 out of 5 on the exam. Many colleges accept AP scores of 3 or above for college credit or allow students to pass out of their writing requirement.

We believe that all students can succeed in math. Our goal is to provide all students the opportunity to take calculus in high school. Pushing students out of their “comfort zone.”

Marketing/DECA  Introduction to Marketing (Grade 10) CP & Honors Course work includes topics such as advertising, sports management, entrepreneurship, and business. Students will be assessed through a completion of a business/ marketing plan which will also include a presentation component. Students will have the opportunity to further their studies through enrollment in our internationally recognized DECA program. In DECA, students will learn public speaking, leadership, organizational skills, and be able to network with over 200,000 members worldwide

Marketing 1 ( Grade 11, Honors) Marketing 2 (Grade 12, Honors) As students continue their participation & membership in the DECA program, additional course work in hospitality, finance, public relations, creative marketing, and fashion design will be introduced. Members will be able to travel to such places as Orlando, Anaheim, Nashville, and Atlanta through annual international marketing skills competitions.

National Art Honor Society Students excelling in Art are invited to apply . The group meets monthly and uses their talents to better their school and community. 9 graduating seniors receive scholarships at awards night. Photography Club Open to all students with an interest in photography. Meets bi-monthly to discuss technical and artistic issues pertaining to photography.

56 KPHS Peer Tutoring Center
The Peer Tutoring Center is available throughout the school day and afterschool for students to access free tutoring support from highly successful KPHS upperclassmen. These students are taking the Peer Tutoring Internship class offered at KPHS. Tutoring in all core subject areas and many electives is available at the Peer Tutoring Center.
