First Athletic Trainer
First recognized Olympic Games early 20th century Aid athletes with injuries First major text “The Trainer’s Bible” 1917 by S.E.Bilik Early ATs had “no technical knowledge” Techniques typically included Rub (massage), application of counterirritant, prescription of home remedies and poultices

First NATA meeting in Kansas in 1950
1920’s Cramer Family started a line of products for AT Wrote book – First Aider, 1932 First NATA meeting in Kansas in 1950 200 ATs attended First AT curriculum approved by NATA in 1959 1970’s NATA Professional Education Committee Formed list of objectives to define AT as major course of study

1970 established the Board of Certification (BOC)
Program for certifying AT students and recertifying current ATCs Now commonly called the NATABOC\ 1982 – were 9 graduate AT educational programs Recognized by the American Medical Association as an allied health care profession in 1990
