In the first days of the war, both sides expected the struggle to be short. They never expected the fight to last for 7 years, and how the results would not only change North America but change the world.

2. George Washington: British soldier in the French and Indian War who would later command the American Army in the American Revolution, and become the First President of the United States.
Militia: A force made up of civilians trained as soldiers but not part of the regular army.
Alliance: Agreement between courtiers to help each other against other countries in war.
Cede: To surrender
Duty: Import Tax
Boycott: An organized campaign to refuse to buy certain products
Petition: A written request to a government or an official
Writs of Assistance: Court orders that allowed British Officials to make searches of home and property without saying what they were searching for or proof of a warrant.

Lawyer who would defend the British Soldiers from the Boston Massacre, and would become the second President of the United States 10) Sam Adams: Established the Committee of Correspondence, and would be a leading figure in the road to Revolution. 11) Patrick Henry: Patriot who would say “Give me Liberty of Give me Death” 12) Monopoly: Total control of a market for a certain product 13) Repeal: Official end 14) Minuteman: Citizen soldiers who could be ready to fight at a minutes notice in the colonies. 15) Blockade: Shutting off a port by ships to keep people or supplies from moving in or out. 16) Mercenary: Soldiers who serve another country for money
