IED Attacks in AFG since 2001:
15,608 NATO casualties.
IED Attacks from Jan 11 DEC 12* (outside IRQ and AFG):
18,256 IED events globally.
33,041 casualties.
123 Countries.
IED Attacks 2011:
7296 IED events globally.
A monthly average of 608 events.
These attacks have been conducted by 61 regional and transnational threat networks.
IED Attacks 2012:
9960 IED events globally.
A monthly average of 830 events.
These attacks have been conducted by 53 regional and transnational threat networks.
IEDs are the weapon of choice for NATO adversaries and requires offensive and defensive measures to counter.
