Job Descriptions and Person Specifications

2 Job Descriptions A Job Description is a detailed description of what the person will be expected to do. It is a good idea to ask a variety of people before drawing up the job description as people have different views on what a job entails

3 What is included in a Job Description?
The Job Title Where it is located (including the name of the department) General information about the job The activities that make up the job Working conditions

4 Person Specification Not all people who work for an organisation are the same. Some jobs require a certain ‘type’ of person. Different people have different characteristics e.g: Physical – height, weight Experience – from previous employment Qualifications – GCSE’s, A2 or a degree Personality – good communicator, extrovert, good listener

5 Person Specification Cont.
In some jobs these different characteristics may be relevant. Discuss some examples.
