2 Timelines of the empires:
MAYAN EMPIRE: The timeline of Mayans is divided in three major periods: the Pre-classic Period, the Classic Period, and the Post- classic Period. a. The Pre-classic Period

3 b. Classic Period (250 AD to 900 AD) :
C. Post-classic Period (900 AD to 1500 AD):

4 INCAS Spaniards arrived on the west coast of South America in the 1500s, and a large portion of the region was ruled by the Inca Empire. The Empire had ruled much of the region since the early 1400s. The center of the Inca Empire was the city of Cusco.

5 Pre-Inca Empire (2500 BC- 1200 AD)
Inca Empire (1200 AD AD) Decline and fall of the Inca Empire (1525 AD AD)

6 Aztecs 1100 AD: The Aztecs leave their homeland of Aztlan in northern Mexico and begin their journey south. 1522 AD: The Spanish begin to rebuild the city of Tenochtitlan. It will be called Mexico City and will be the capital of New Spain. 

7 GOVERNMENT: MAYANS: There was a large number of city-states. Each city-state had its own independent government. A city-state was made up of a major city INCAS: It was a monarchy ruled by a single leader called the Sapa Inca (emperor or king of the Inca Empire). He was the most powerful person in the land AZTECS: The Aztec Empire was made up of city-states. At the center of each city-state was a large city that ruled the area. For the most part, the Aztec Emperor did not interfere with the ruling of the city-states. 

8 Society MAYANS: Emperor – priests an nobles – merchants and artisans – peasants - slaves INCAS: Noble classes – Public administrators – Commoners AZTECS: Emperor – noble class – merchants – common people (farmers, craftmen, warriors) - slaves
