1 Climate

2 What is ‘Climate’?! Climate Climate is the average weather in a place over time. Climate tells you what the weather is usually like. Climate can be worked out by taking weather measurements over a longer period of time (usually 30 years) and then calculating the average.

3 Climate Climate depends on many factors, including distance from the sea, wind direction, ocean currents and altitude (height above sea level).

4 Climate Graph This is a ‘Climate Graph’. It shows us the average temperature and rainfall for a location somewhere in the world.

5 Climate Graph Describe the climate in this location. Think about using terms such as hot, cold, dry, wet, humid, winter, summer.

6 Climate Graph Where do you think this might be in the world?
It’s Edinburgh, Scotland

7 Climate Graph Now it’s your turn to create a ‘Climate Graph’.
Using the statistics for a location in your team’s chosen nation, create a simple climate graph just like the example provided. Remember! The left axis is for ‘Temperature’ The right axis is for ‘Rainfall’ (precipitation) The bottom axis is for ‘Months of the year’ Labelling Don’t forget to use different lines or bars for each item on the graph. What units should you use? Temperature is measured in ‘Degrees Celsius’ and Rainfall is measured in ‘Millimetres’. Don’t forget a TITLE!!
