7 CONTINGENCY PLAN - PREPAREDNESS
The Agriculture Department will prepare the Contingency plan in case of late onset of monsoon / dry spells during the season Short duration varieties of crop seeds will be arranged to provide seeds on subsidy Recommending Cultivation of short duration crops like Blackgram / Greengram / Soybean to facilitate sequence crop with Bengalgram or Coriander or Sunhemp or Fodder Jowar during Rabi Stocking of quality seeds well in advance for immediate distribution for re-sowing in affected areas Creating awareness among the farmers for application of booster doses of fertilizers for recovery of crop Adoption of soil conserve methods for effective utilization of the available moisture to save the crop in the drought prone areas Encourage the farmers to have insurance to their crop so that they get relief in the eventuality of calamity 7

8 MEASURES/STEPS PLANNED IN CASE OF CONTINGENCY PLAN REQUIRD
Monitoring the situation regularly with district Joint Directors of Agriculture, Scientists through videoconferences, meetings to evolve strategy for crop management Special teams consisting of DAATTC scientists and officers will be formed to visit villages for factual assessment of situations headed by the District Joint Directors of Agriculture for preparing contingency plan. and MAOs and ADAs will educate the farmers on contingency plan Meetings will be conducted with seed supplying agencies to ensure the availability of alternate crop seeds as per contingency plan for positioning of Redgram, Blackgram, Greengram, Maize, Sunflower, Jowar, Castor, Horsegram and Cowpea seed The farmers were motivated to conserve the moisture by ploughing across the slope. Spraying of 2% Urea solution on groundnut crop is recommended to withstand moisture stress where ever necessary Direct sowing of paddy with short duration varieties is recommended to avoid nursery raising.
