3 Scheduling -All students participated this past Wednesday in our first ever course recommendation day. - Students had mini conferences with each core content area teacher next year’s placement and recommendation. - Counselors will meet with students individually starting tomorrow to discuss the recommendations and select electives. - A copy of the course recommendation form will be sent home with your child after meeting with their counselor. - Counselors may be contacted to discuss and review your child’s course requests.

6 Engineering DDP/ IED Intro to Engineering Design
Students dig deep into the engineering design process, applying math, science, and engineering standards to hands-on projects like designing a new toy or improving an existing product. POE Principles of Engineering Students explore a broad range of engineering topics including mechanisms, strength of structure and materials, and automation, and then they apply what they know to take on challenges like designing a self-powered car.

7 College Credit Computer Integrated Manufacturing
Students discover and explore manufacturing processes, product design, robotics, and automation, and then they apply what they have learned to design solutions for real-world manufacturing problems. New for @BabylonTechEd for everything related to Babylon Tech! College Credit

8 Science Research Intro to Research Research 1-4
- Develops fundamental research skills and laboratory techniques Research 1-4 Collaborate with research institutions to allow students to work with professionals in different fields Provides real world science experience, problem solving skills, and independence in the lab

9 Modules help students design solutions to real-world problems.
STEAM is a supplementary science course that provides hands-on and inquiry-based projects to enhance skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. Course content is designed to enhance the student’s understanding of Biology, Earth Science, and Environmental Sciences. Students collaborate with peers and staff with Google Classroom on Chromebooks. Students gain experience using websites, infographics, google drives, and other technological apps to collect data and design projects. Modules help students design solutions to real-world problems.

10 Freshman Seminar -Designed to teach the skills needed to succeed both during high school & post secondary. -Supports the other core courses to address the written components of formal research. -Students will utilize technology to build and accrue necessary research skills and utilize a variety of academic techniques, strategies and resources. -Students will utilize Google Drive to create an interdisciplinary portfolio on which they will reflect by conducting a student-led conference.

11 The Arts Art -Studio Art Art History -AP Art -Photography -Computer Graphics Music -Chorus -Band -Orchestra -Music Theory -Theatre

12 Wilson Tech -A vocational program where students spend a half day at a Wilson Tech campus and a half day at the high school. -Available to Juniors and Seniors -Program categories include: Service, Transportation, Technical, Construction, Graphics/Media & Health careers.

13 Honors, AP and College Level Courses
Honors – Tailored for high achieving students. Additional topics covered in greater detail. Advanced Placement - Taught at the college level. AP exam is required at the conclusion of the course. Each college determines whether or not they will accept AP credit and, if so, what score they require. College Level – Earn college credit in high school by taking courses offered in partnerships with LIU, St. John’s, Syracuse, Suffolk CC, Farmingdale. 13

14 Graduation Requirements
English - 4 credits Social Studies - 4 credits Math - 3 credits Science - 3 credits World Language - 1 credit (3 credits required for Advanced Regents diploma) Fine Arts– 1 credit (NYS approved courses only) Health – ½ credit PE – 2 credits (1/2 credit per year) Computer – ½ credit

15 Graduation Requirements
Art or Music – 1 credit Health – ½ credit PE – ½ credit per year (for a total of 2 credits) Computer – ½ credit Based on the student’s grades and progress in class, the teacher will make recommendations for the following year. Communication is important in the scheduling process. Speak with your teacher and counselor to let your wishes be known. School counselors will work with students to assure that they meet all necessary graduation requirements. Some courses require departmental approval. Approval for those courses depend on departmental criteria; therefore, some requests may be denied. 15

Following 5 NYS Regents exams are required: Global History, US History, English, 1 Math, 1 Science Advanced Regents Diploma Following 9 NYS Regents exams are required: Global History, US History, English, Algebra 1 CC, Geometry CC, Algebra 2 CC, Living Environment, Physical Science, and World Language You need 1 credit of Art or Music, and ½ credit Health to graduate. NYS mandates 4 years of PE. 16

18 Transcript Choose challenging courses in order to: - Demonstrate the ability to succeed in higher level courses. - Improve writing skills and sharpen problem solving techniques. - Develop study habits that are necessary for tackling rigorous course work. - Possibly earn credit for college - Earn a high cumulative GPA Students must successfully complete four years of English and Social Studies to graduate. They will be required to pass the English regents, Global History regents and the US History regents. 18

20 Get Involved - Meet new people and explore new areas.
- Improve time management skills. - Include on a college application. - Remember quality over quantity.

22 The Student Athlete and the NCAA
- If your child plans on competing in Division I or Division II college sports, he or she must meet all eligibility requirements as set by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. - Website: - CoreCourseGPA.com - Information about eligibility - NCAA presentation on school website - NCAA approved courses indicated in curriculum guide A transcript is a summary of all the courses you took in HS as well as the grade you received for each course. When you apply to college a copy of your transcript is sent to the college with your application. 22

- Come to school every day, on time. - Maintain a healthy balance between academic and extracurricular. - Manage your time – use an agenda. - Develop a system to keep organized. - Get involved. - Ask for help when you need it. - Take responsibility for your actions. 23
