Any dwelling that provides shelter.
Near Environment:
Refers to what is within or near the shelter.
Furnishings neighborhood, and community.
Total Environment:
All of your interactions with people and buildings as well as different geological areas outside your dwelling place, neighborhood, and local community.

3. Abraham Maslow April 1, 1908 – June 8, 1970 Psychologist
He studied positive human qualities and lives of exemplary people
He wrote a book titled: Motivation and Personality
He believed that people are motivated to achieve certain needs and in a certain order. When one need was fulfilled they could move onto the next need.

4. According to Abraham Maslow there are 5 basic levels
Maslow presented these levels in a hierarchy, or ranking
He ranked them from most essential to least
You must meet the 1st level before moving on to the next.

6. Physical Needs Basic needs for survival
Wants: things you would like to have but are not essential to survival
Your Basic Needs must be satisfied before you are able to think about anything else.

7. Safety Protects you from physical harm.
You feel both physically and emotional secure.
Feeling safe from threats and danger.
You need to feel safe in your surroundings and know what to expect.

8. Love and Belonging You need to feel loved and accepted. Praise Support
Companionship
Acceptance
Recognition
Love

9. Esteem Knowing you have value and self-worth. Need for respect.
You know others are pleased with who you are.
By acquiring esteem, you gain confidence and feel needed in the world.

10. Self – Actualization Reaching your fullest potential.
Ultimate level of fulfillment and satisfaction.
To reach this level, all other needs must be met.
Self Actualization – a person’s motivation to reach his or her full potential.

Create your own Needs Pyramid. For each section identify at least 4 needs that you have to have met . Draw at least one image of a description of a need for each section of the pyramid.
