Humanistic – People make free and conscious choices based on their unique experiences – self concept. Psychoanalytic – Unconscious forces or desires affect behavior.

13 Methods of Research Survey – use questions on feeling, opinions or behavior patterns. Important to consider the people selected to survey. Cross-sectional – look at different age groups at the same time in order to understand changes that occur during the life span.

14 Methods of Research Field experiment – research conducted in the field. Naturalistic observation – subjects are not aware they are being researched.

15 Methods of Research Case studies – collect lengthy (usually), detailed information about a person’s background. You can clearly see connections between childhood and adulthood. Longitudinal- can be used to track people over long periods of time.

16 Methods of Research Interview – involves studying people face-to-face and asking questions. Often used to see how people address problems. People tend to present information favorably in order to please interviewer. May also give person Psychological test.
