Office Mix Video Storyboard Lydia Frass Criteria: The following elements should be included: A sketch or drawing of the screen, page, or frame. Color, placement, and size of graphics, if important. Actual text, if any, for each screen, page, or frame. Color, size, and type of font, if there is text. Narration, if any. Animation, if any. Video, if any. Audio, if any. Audience interaction, if any. Anything else that will appear or that is relevant. Storyboards will be evaluated based on the following components:  Screens- All screens are complete, detailed, and numbered Links- Links are included and explained with appropriate  Content- Factual, interesting, easy to understand, and appropriate for target user  Layout- Adheres to standard guidelines, consistent, and clear Media Elements- Media elements are included and described  Formatting elements & transitions- Appropriate use of fonts, backgrounds, and transitions. Elements add to the overall engagement and don’t distract the learner.

Office Mix is a great tool that’s really easy to use. It’s a free add-in to PowerPoint that you can download from mix.office.com. This video walks you through how to download and use Mix. And it’s supported through UTS! You can add captions, allows students to download your PowerPoint, have them sign in to see what they’re doing…and you can even use it to create interactive, engaging quizzes at strategic points in your lesson. Office Mix has some great features. To download Mix, first make sure you have PowerPoint version 2013 or later. Go to mix.office.com. Look for the Get Office Mix orange button in middle of the screen. Click on it, then follow the steps indicated. So you’ve now seen how to download. If you haven’t already, pause this video and try to download mix. If you have problems, contact UTS. They can help you. Screen Sketch Background: Font color/type/size: White, black, open sans, 30 Actual Text: Sign In to Office Mix Narration: After you’ve downloaded the plug-in, check that you can log-in to Office Mix using your USC Office365 account. Click Sign in button. Click Sign in with a work or school account button. Your username is your full address and your password. If you can’t log in, if you were ever a USC student, you might need to check with your student Username will be your and your current password. Pause the video and go to mix.office.com and check your log in. Screen Sketch Background: Font color/type/size: Actual Text: How to record How to Record Narration: Recording is easy. You’ll need either a headset mic or built in webcam in your laptop. Create your PowerPoint, add embedded mix videos or quizzes. Save your work. If you need to. Type out your script into the Notes section of PowerPoint. Open your PowerPoint, click the Mix tab, click Slide Recording icon. Go through the process of recording. Save your work. Click the Upload to Office Mix button and follow the steps. Screen Sketch Background/ Font color/type/size: Actual Text: Sharing Your Mix Narration: You’ve added your Mix to Mix. Now, let’s share it with your students. Open Mix account, go to your video, click Details, scroll down to the Permissions and Sharing area on bottom left. You can move the slider to one of the 5 options. If you want, you can even have your students log in using their USC username and password You can a link, share it, or embed. You can also embed it directly into Blackboard. To embed in Blackboard. Open your course. Go to your module where you want to add the Mix. Click Tools, scroll to the Office Mix LTI. Follow the steps. Then test your embedded Mix. Office Mix has analytics so you can see who’s watching what and how long. You can even see how they’re doing on your quizzes. You’ll need to have your students sign in with their USC student to view or embed in Blackboard so they only have to sign into Blackboard.. To view the data, open Mix, go to your video, click on the Analytics option. View each students’ views. You can click on the numbers to see more details. Open PowerPoint, click the Quizzes Videos Apps icon in the Mix menu ribbon, select quizzes, type out your questions, select the correct answers. Save your work. If you didn’t insert a quiz while you were first creating your presentation, don’t worry, you can go in and add it at any time. You just republish your Mix! Closed captioning is not only the law but beneficial to students who’s first language isn’t English, or prefers to read rather than watch or listen. How can I caption my mix? You can close caption your Mix. It does take a few steps, which we’re going to do now. Mix needs a .ttml caption file. If you don’t already have it, there are a few free tools you can use to mechanically transcribe your Mix video and then convert to a .ttml file to upload into Mix. Let’s take a look at what you can do. Upload your youtube .srt file. Convert to appropriate file to get to ttml. Rev gives you the ttml file directly from the YouTube .srt file. 3play media requires a couple of extra steps.
