2 What is a refugee? Draw a picture of a refugee. Include captions.

Refugee: According to the United Nations High Commission on Refugees, a refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war, or violence Voluntary Migrant: Those who choose to leave their home for various reasons including economic reasons, family reunification, education, etc. Internally Displaced Person: Someone who is forced to flee his or her home but who remains within his or her country’s borders

5 Who is a refugee? Read the story and complete the notes sheet. When finished you will draw a picture of the refugee you read about. Include qualities, characteristics, background, talents, abilities, dreams, etc. Label your picture so we can understand it.

6 Who is a refugee? Write three tweets in the voice of your refugee. You should have one tweet for each of the following hashtags. Your tweet should be no more than 140 characters (letters and spaces) #Homesick (what does/might your refugee miss from their home?) #NewHome (What does your refugee think of their new home?) #TheJourney (What was your refugee’s journey like?) Ex.: “I wish I was back at school playing soccer. We have no field and our ball is flat. #Homesick”
