3. Parent Homework 
Please return emergency form information, allergy notifications, and purple dismissal forms as soon as possible to ensure the safety of your child.
Check your child’s take home folder each day.
Return the Thursday folder on Friday

5. Grading M= Meets Standards P= Progressing Toward Standard
Students in first grade have the following grading scale on their report cards:
E= Exceeds Standards
M= Meets Standards
P= Progressing Toward Standard
B= Performing Below Standard
Use this slide to explain grading procedures, progress report and report card information.

6. Grading
No “E”s will be given during the first quarter.
These grades should not be translated into A’s, B’s or C’s!
The goals grow more rigorous throughout the year as students continue to fine tune their skills.

7. Grading
Students will complete a lot of hands on work in first grade. Not all work done in the classroom will come home in the form of a paper-pencil assignment or worksheet.
Class work or homework that is checked by the teacher may often times be ungraded. It is a check for understanding.
Work completed in literacy or math centers is done independent of the teacher and may be done with the cooperation of other students. Not all center work will be graded.

8. PALS/DRA Beginning of year: 4 DRA= Developmental Reading Assessment
The benchmark goals for first grade are as follows:
Beginning of year: 4
Middle of year: 10
End of year:
PALS= Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening - Given in the Fall and the Spring
We will go over all of these assessments at our conference.

10. Take Home Folder
Students have a daily take home folder (blue folder)that should be checked each night.
The left side of the folder will contain student work or other items that can remain at home. The right side will have information that needs to be returned to the school (forms, permission slips, etc.)

11. Special Classes Our schedule is as follows:

Wednesday –SEARCH or Guidance, PE and Library
Thursday –Music and Reading Buddies
Friday- PE
On P.E. days please make sure your child wears appropriate shoes.

12. Lunch
Lunch is from 11:05-11:35
Lunch money may be placed in the take home folder. Please always label it with “lunch money” and your child’s name.
Lunches can be paid for online using A $3.00 fee is added when using this service.
Students must memorize their student ID/lunch number. They will be expected to enter their own numbers each day for lunch and to log on to school laptops.

13. Snacks
Students are permitted to bring a small, healthy snack each day.
Keep an extra snack in a pocket of the backpack.
Drinks should not be included with snacks. A water fountain is available in the classroom.
On this slide explain what assessments your students are required to take such as GMADE, GRADE, DIBELS, or other standardized tests. You might also want to include some information about spelling tests or other weekly tests.

14. Birthdays
Invitations for birthday parties cannot be given out at school unless every child in the class is invited.
We are a birthday treat free school.

15. Clinic
It is a Loudoun County policy that any student who has a fever of must be sent home. Students cannot return to school until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of medication.
All medication dispensed at school will need a doctor’s note. Please see the school nurse if you have questions.
Explain what students will be required to learn/do in science this year.
