1 Registration For Seventh Grade 2017/2018 Presented by
Meadowlark Middle School Counseling Department

2 Before we begin, you will need:
A pencil A highlighter Your registration card from your teacher Registration papers

3 Each of you should have:
Your blue registration card Parent Letter/Parent & Student Registration Checklist (Pink) “Your Guide To Middle School” booklet (White) If you do not have all of these items, raise your hand.

4 Look at the pink sheet that begins with “Dear Parent or Guardian”
Look at the pink sheet that begins with “Dear Parent or Guardian”. If you would like to request a course change for math, you must fill out the Math Course Change Request form at the bottom of this page, and staple it to your registration card. See the next slide.

6 Now look at the other side of the pink sheet, the side titled,
“Middle School Registration Parent/Student Checklist”. This year, registration is a two part process. First you will fill out the registration card, and then you must register online. Please use this checklist to ensure that you have completed both parts of registration. See the next slide.

8 Now look at side one of your registration card (blue)
Now look at side one of your registration card (blue). Before returning your card, have your parents fill out ALL the information on the front of the card. Please highlight your card like the one shown in the next slide.

10 Now turn to the back (side two) of your registration card
Now turn to the back (side two) of your registration card.On the top of side two of your card, on the “School:” line, write: Due Date: TUESDAY, APRIL 4, 2017 See the next slide.

“Student Name” “Student #” “Parent Signature” All highlighted information should be completed before turning in your card. See the next slide.

14 Process of Elimination
In order to help you select Encore courses for next year, we will now mark out (eliminate) the courses you cannot take next year. You may choose your Seventh Grade Encore courses from ANY of the remaining classes.

Look at side two of your card. All the music and art courses are listed in the left column. (Look at the next slide.)

17 If you are taking Chorus this year, mark out Beginning Chorus.

However, if you want to receive a high school credit in foreign language, you must take foreign language all three years.

The last course listed in this column is Invention and Innovation. Anyone can take this course. The description for this course is on page 4 of the “Your Guide To Middle School Registration” booklet.

To help you decide which courses to take, the descriptions for all encore courses are on pages 3 & 4 of the “Your Guide To Middle School Registration” booklet.

54 REMEMBER: You may choose your Seventh Grade Encore courses from ANY of the remaining classes; you do NOT have to take courses from each Encore category.

55 Now you are ready to complete your card
Now you are ready to complete your card. The encore courses you cannot take next year have been eliminated; you may choose any three courses from the remaining courses. You also need to select three alternates, in case you do not get your first three choices.

Your Encore course choices should be numbered 1-6 in order of preference, with number 1 being your first choice.

57 HAVE YOUR PARENTS SIGN THE CARD!
Before you return your card, make sure that you: Accurately complete the front of the card. Have your Encore selections numbered 1-6 Complete online registration in your PowerSchool portal HAVE YOUR PARENTS SIGN THE CARD!

58 Bring your registration information and come by the Counseling Center.
