The world gets bigger as we go along

The concept is if you faced horrendous circumstances in your childhood then it may be harder to overcome in your later stages of life vs. someone who had less challenges to face in their childhood.
You are born with certain traits like optimism vs. pessimisum, but other feelings like inferiority vs. competence are developed based on the challenges and support received when growing up.

Marcia also questioned about Erickson theory.
He also questioned that if the stages only occurred are within the age ranges Erickson suggests.
However Erickson theory occurs throughout a lifetime.
Age groups best describe when conflicts become most important.
