ACCOMODATION This sector provides travelers with a place to sleep.
Places can range from deluxe resorts, hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, campgrounds, and remote hunting lodges. Jobs includes anything from entry level jobs to executive positions. Examples of jobs include: front desk clerk, reservations agent, housekeeping, valet, banquet server, bartender, chef, cook, director of sales and marketing, concierge, hotel manager

Food and Beverage This is the largest sector in tourism – Approx. 50% of the tourism workforce is employed in Food and Beverage. Includes full service restaurants, bars & pubs, catering services, fast food restaurants and institutional food services (schools, hospitals etc.) Jobs include: chefs, waiters, bartenders, night club manager, baker, dining room manager, caterer.

ATTRACTIONS This sector provides entertainment and education for visitors. They can be natural attractions such as: Niagra Falls, Cabot Trail, Hopewell Rocks, or man made ones such as: Disney World, CN Tower, Zoos, Water Parks, Casinos, or historical sites such as Kings Landing. Jobs Include: travel guide, life guard, casino dealer, heritage interpreter, public relations manager, ride/equipment operator

ADVENTURE TRAVEL & RECREATION
Provides hands-on physical activity for visitors. Examples of services include: ski resorts, whitewater rafting, hiking expeditions, whale watching, sailing, wilderness camping, safaris, golf courses, hunting and fishing expeditions. Jobs include: ski instructor, ski lift operator, park warden, greens keeper, recreation

EVENTS & CONFERENCE Events to educate and entertain visitors just like attractions only temporary. Services such festivals, trade shows, conferences, concerts, sporting events, meetings Examples would be: Calgary Stampede, Superbowl, Olympics, East Coast Music Awards, Sussex Balloon Festival, World Sporting Championships Examples of jobs: exhibit designer, catering coordinator, trade show operator, registration supervisors, public relations officer, etc.

TRANSPORTATION Provides visitors with a way to get from one destination to another. Includes: airlines, railroads, cruise lines, bus and boat tours, car rental companies, etc. Includes about 20% of all tourism work force. Jobs include: pilot, reservation agent, flight attendant, cruise director, baggage handler, air traffic controller, bus/boat operator.

Travel Trade This sector includes travel agencies and tour operators.
Travel agents create and sell travel packages that coordinate a traveler’s accommodations, transportation and activities while on vacation Tour operators design and market tours for specific areas.

Tourism Services This sector promotes and supports the tourism industry. Made up of departments in the federal, provincial and local government that promote and regulate tourism. Includes associations, market researchers, the media, consultants and manufacturers Enterprises such as information centers, gift shops, duty free shops, travel insurance agencies. Jobs include: Canada Customs agents, Minister of tourism and departmental employees, information center workers, travel writers and tourism teachers.

Hospitality Sector includes the Food and Beverage and the Accommodations Sector (basically the reception and entertainment of visitors) Employment in each sector: Food & Beverage – 48% Transportation – 22% Accommodations – 18% Attractions – 8% All Other Sectors – 9%
