2 An adjective clarifies the meaning of a noun or pronouns by providing information about its appearance, location, and so on. An adjective is a word used to describe a noun or pronoun or to give it a more specific meaning. Examples: Green fields (what kind of fields?) That garden (which garden?) Six roses (How many roses?) Extensive rainfall (How much rainfall?) When an adjective modifies a noun, it usually precedes the noun. Occasionally, the adjective may follow the noun. The expert was tactful about my limited knowledge. I considered the expert tactful.

3 Indefinite vs. Definite Articles
Articles: Three common adjectives- a, an, and the- are known as articles. A and an are indefinite articles The refers to a specific nouns and, therefore, is called the definite article.

4 Nouns Used as Adjectives
Words that are usually nouns sometimes act as adjectives. In this case, the noun answers the questions What kind? or Which one? about another noun. NOUNS USED AS ADJECTIVES Flower Flower garden Lawn Lawn mower

5 Proper Adjectives Adjectives can also be proper. Proper adjectives are proper nouns used as adjectives or adjectives formed from proper nouns. They usually begin with capital letters. PROPER NOUNS PROPER ADJETIVES Monday Monday morning San Francisco San Francisco streets Europe European roses Rome Roman hyacinth

POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS OR ADJECTIVES My, your, his, her, its, our, their The bride threw her bouquet. DEMONSTRATIVE ADJECTIVES This, that, these, those This lettuce and these dandelions are composite flowers. INTERROGATIVE ADJECTIVES Which, what, whose Which game do you want to play? INDEFINITE ADCTIVES Singular nouns: another, each, either, little, much, neither, one Plural nouns: both, few, many, several Singular or plural nouns: all, any, more, most, other, some Each rose had thorns. Several plants bloomed this spring. We appreciate any donations.

7 ADVERBS MODIFYING VERBS
An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, an adjective or another adverb. When an adverb modifies a verb, it will answer any of the following questions: Where? When? In what way? To what extent? ADVERBS MODIFYING VERBS Where? The plant grew here. The bushes were planted there. The snake slid underground. When? She never raked the leaves Later, we toured the greenhouses. The boat sails daily to the city. In what way? He officially announced it. She was graciously helping. Jeff left quickly after the party. To what extent? The bees were still buzzing loudly. He always did it right. Wash completely after painting.

8 Evenings are restful times. I work evenings.
ADVERBS MODIFYING ADJECTIVES ADVERBS MODIFYING ADVERBS To what extent? The solution was quite logical. He worked very competently. It was an extremely overgrown garden. I am not completely finished. Several nouns can function as adverbs that answer questions. Where? Or When? Some of these words are home, yesterday, today, tomorrow, mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights, week, month, and year. NOUNS USED AS ADVERBS NOUNS AS ADVERBS Evenings are restful times. I work evenings. My home is miles from here. Lets head home. Yesterday was a lovely day. I saw them yesterday at the show.
