Find the poetic/sound device underneath your desk.
Write a 5 line poem that uses that device somewhere in the poem.

3. Epic Poem
Definition: *long, serious poem that tells the story of a larger-than-life heroic Figure. *Originally, way for customs and stories to be passed through oral story-telling.
Characteristics:
Heroic central figure
Intervention of supernatural figures
Concern with fate of nation or people
Vast setting

4. Sonnet Definition: A short poem written in a certain format Example
Characteristics: 1.) 14 lines 2.)broken into 3 quatrains and 1 couplet. 3.) has a certain rhyme scheme 4.) written in iambic pentameter

5. Lyric Poem
a poem, such as a sonnet or an ode, that expresses the thoughts and feelings of the poet.
The term lyric is now commonly referred to as the words to a song.
Lyric poetry does not tell a story which portrays characters and actions.
The lyric poet addresses the reader directly, portraying his or her own feeling, state of mind, and perceptions.

6. Ballad
poem that tells a story similar to a folk tale or legend and often has a repeated refrain.
A ballad is often about love and often sung.
A ballad is a story in poetic form.

3.) Go outside for carousel poster activity.
4.) Share posters in class

9. Carousel Activity
Each poster has a different poetry term written at the top. Your group must begin a poem using that term, such as alliteration. Then when it is time to switch, you go to the next poster and add to what has already been written.
