Career Services assists students and recent graduates with planning, creating, implementing, and evaluating career development and job search strategies.
We work with students and graduates from all majors & degree programs.

Make sense of the American internship & job search process.
Prepare materials, including an American style resume & cover letter.
Get ready for interviews and follow up.
Find and apply for internship & job postings.
Appointments encouraged; walk in hours Monday – Thursday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Resumes in the U.S. may be different from
CVs in your home country.
Short (one page if possible)
Do not include personal information

to the position for which you are applying.

Nonverbal communication is important—firm handshake, eye contact.
Job seekers in the United States also use many methods of finding a job.

9. What to Expect at a Career Fair
A busy day:
Over 100 organizations.
Several hundred job seekers.
Company representatives stand or
sit at tables arranged in rows.
Check in at the front of the building
Will receive a map.
Find employers of interest, talk with employers of lesser interest first to gain a sense of what to expect.

10. What NOT to Expect at a Career Fair
At a career/job fair, do NOT expect:
A chance to submit
applications or resumes.
An interview that day.
Immediate results . . .
Attending a fair is part of a
long term process.
The value of the fair is in the personal connection, learning something you can’t find out online.

Research employers; use resources such as:
The organization’s web site.
Going Global (on the Career Services website).
Can the employer hire international students?
Research yourself.
What are you seeking? An internship? Job? In what area?
Know your status How are you able to work for an employer as an international student?

Closing the conversation: Before leaving, ask for a business card and the best way to follow up with them
If do not have a business card, write down their contact information
What if the employer is not able to hire international students?
Person attending the career fair does not have control over this policy; now is not the time to discuss it with them.
What about communicating my visa status?
Consider the best time to do so.
What if the employer cannot hire international students?

After you have created an account, you may access Going Global on & off campus.
Every 6 months you will be prompted to renew your account, regardless of how often you use Going Global.
