16 Types of Maps Reference maps display physical or political information, such as boundaries, landforms, climate, vegetation, economic resources, infrastructure, cities, or elevation of specific geographic areas.

18 Types of Maps Thematic maps use reference maps (physical, political, etc.) to focus on a particular distribution and/or patterns, such as population density, settlement patterns, annual rainfall, etc. Example: This thematic map, which shows the population density of Texas, is overlaid on a political map (a type of reference map) with county boundaries

Texas Map- On the map of Texas place a legend, scale, a title, and a compass rose. Label the Gulf of Mexico, Rio Grande, the Capitol, the Red River and the Sabine River. What state is directly above Texas? Label it. What country is directly below Texas? Label it. What state is to the left of Texas? Label it. What state is to the right of Texas? Label it.
