3 Aims To understand that different such as the government, the public and businesses have different amounts of power To think about ways in which these groups relate to the food system To think about what actions different people can take to make the global food system fairer

4 A power matrix Think about who is important for your chosen issue…
PLOT them on this matrix depending on if they have more or less power, and if they are for or against your issue A lot of power For the issue Against the issue Very little power

6 A fairer food system What does a fairer food system look like?
More money invested in small farmers, to help them increase yields Land for small farmers protected Small farmers helped to adapt their techniques to a changing climate Food prices being lower Help for small farmers sell food to shoppers more directly Carbon emissions being cut Less meat eaten to help cut carbon and increase the amount of food This is what needs to be achieved….

9 Power SHIFT Are there any groups who have power, but don’t want to change the food system? How could they be persuaded to change? Are there any groups who want to change the food system, but have little power? How can their power be increased?

Look at the examples of what each group on the matrix has been able to do to increase food justice Decide which is the most important action and say WHY

Businesses? Charities (or NGOs)? Did you like things aimed at direct change now, or helping to change in the future?

What could you do…? Support someone else’s action? Local or global? Do your own action? How could you maximise your impact?
