Live in Mesopotamia: city-state of Ur God called him to move to a new land (Promise Land) and Abraham would be the father of many nations Abraham & God made a covenant Believe only in me (God) & I will bless you Isaac his son had… Jacob: grandson & he had 12 sons

11 Moses: The Law giver & lead the Exodus
Over a long period of time the Israelites (Hebrews or Jews) became captives of Egypt Moses was told by God to confront Pharaoh Lead the Hebrews out of slavery, Exodus God gave Moses the laws known as the Torah, Ten Commandments

13 Time period of the kings
Saul, David, & Solomon were kings of a united Israel David was the shepherd who became king B.C. A good king. Solomon, David’s son, great trade & great buildings (The Temple) After Solomon the kingdom split in two The Northern Kingdom has bad kings & were taken away into captivities and disappeared.

14 Before the Temple, the Ancient Israelites had a movable temple that was called the Tabernacle. Years later King Solomon built the 1st Temple & it was rebuilt about 2 times. The Temple of Solomon, a place of worship. It no longer exists.

24 Time period of the kings
The Southern kingdom had good & bad kings. Taken into captivity for 70 years Babylonian Captivity lasted 70 years & some return to the Promised Land. 500 B.C. A belief in another good king like David, a Messiah Jerusalem rebuilt. Prophets: spokes persons for God were sent to the people.

26 After the Babylonian Captivity
Israel was independent off and on Then the Greeks took them over (Syria) Judas Maccabees revolt leader kicked them out & they are independent Rome invades & over time destroy Jerusalem to stop a revolt The Jews moved away to other places, this is the Diaspora

28 Keeping the faith Rabbis were teachers and leaders to keep the faith going No Temple but many synagogues for them to pray & worship
