4 Philosophy Varsity level: Our goal is to win.
We also want to have fun while working hard to achieve this goal. Athletes are placed in events in which they will be successful as individuals and still contribute to the team goal of winning a meet. JV level: We want to have fun while working to develop overall skills as a track and field athlete. Freshman/Sophomore athletes will be encouraged to attempt a variety of different events as we learn what their strengths are.

5 Fees $30 for each athlete must be turned in to the office.
Fee must be paid by the first competition. This can be paid to the office or coach.

6 Practice We can get you work outs to do while on vacation
3:45 to 6:00 (This is the block that students should leave open for practice) Due to weather conditions, winter sports, and gym schedules, the practice schedule will be rotated during the month of March. If you are going to be late for academic reasons, bring a note from the teacher to practice. If you need to see the trainer, see him immediately after school. Saturday Practices will start in Mid-April and go until the end of the season Spring Break this year If going, one needs to have a written note notifying the coaching staff of the dates you will be gone We can get you work outs to do while on vacation

7 Attendance - Practice Excused: Must notify coach in writing before practice. Illness (absence from school) The coaching staff will reserve the right to decide whether or not to allow you to compete in the next scheduled meet. Unexcused: Absences that are not cleared with a coach will be considered unexcused. 1st offense: verbal warning by Coach Brooks. 2nd offense: Athlete will not be allowed to compete in the next meet. 3rd offense: Meeting with coaches that may result in a dismissal from the team. Work, school events, club sports, and other commitments do not automatically excuse you. The athletes have made a commitment by going out for the Little Chute Track program. They owe it to their teammates and to themselves to be there. Attendance is important.

8 What does a Practice consist of?
Starting warm-up involves jogging, stretching, dynamic drills, and sprints. Workouts vary day to day. We have a training cycle we work off of focusing on conditioning early and as the year goes on begin to focus more on individual events. Tuesday and Thursday practices are usually set for field events. Cool down by jogging, stretching, form drills (at times), and icing/ice baths if necessary. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday practices are set for weightlifting.

9 Attendance – Meets Your son/daughter is expected to stay for the duration of the meet. We are trying to emphasize the team aspect of track and cheering for teammates. It is acceptable for you to transport your son/daughter directly home from the meet (after the last event). Sign out form can come from Coach or office. YOU MAY ONLY TAKE YOUR SON / DAUGHTER HOME!

10 Meet Entries The number of meet entries varies from meet to meet.
In some cases we can only enter one person per event and in others up to 3. The number of entries is often dependent upon the number of competing teams. Entries will be selected by those who run the fastest, throw the farthest, or jump the highest/farthest. Top individuals will be selected for varsity events. It will not be uncommon to see your son/daughter in different events from one meet to the next.

12 Equipment Some major items I would like to emphasize to have for each practice: good pair of running shoes (reduces injuries) shirt, shorts, sweatpants, hat, gloves, (Assume we are going to practice outside everyday) You can always take off layers It is kind of hard to put them on if you don’t have them water bottles. During meets – assigned uniform (cannot use different shorts, must be issued by the school) sprint shorts sweatshirt/pants solid white undershirt and blue spandex bottoms, water bottle or sports drink, and food.

13 Awards 15 varsity points from competition will earn a varsity letter.
For all awards, the athlete must complete the season in good standing.
