Survey Hosting Collected Data Survey Design Data Analysis

4 Survey Design The key to obtaining good data is to develop a good survey questionnaire What are your objectives? Keep it short, but ensure you capture all the information you need What type of question will generate the best response? Structured Non-structured or open-ended

5 Survey Design Continued
Clear intentions and clear instructions Make sure your questions are unbiased Use familiar language Order and grouping are important Formatting is important Ask questions that can be answered by your participants Ex. How much time do you spend every week studying? Ask one question at a time (don’t use double barrel questions) Example: How have the faculty and students responded to the new systems?

6 Survey design continued
Don’t ask “loaded” questions Don’t use overlapping alternatives Don’t use words that are indefinite in time or imprecise Most common to use 5 or 7 point Likert scale Degrees of opinion/agreement, importance, frequency, & likelihood Quantitative data that is relative easy to analyze Con- social desirability

7 Don’t forget to pilot your survey!!!!!!
