6 The Challenge “If you were running Britain’s education system, how would you encourage young people to start up their own businesses and become the entrepreneurs of tomorrow?” Raise aspirations Adopt a ‘can do’ attitude towards business. If your ideas are good enough he can take them straight to the top! The minister wants you to come up with ideas that will encourage people to raise their aspirations and adopt a ‘can do’ attitude towards business. If your ideas are good enough he can take them straight to the top!

8 Ask “What preconceptions do young people have about Entrepreneurship?
TASK 1: The Barriers Identify barriers Ask “What preconceptions do young people have about Entrepreneurship? Think “What fears and concerns jump into your mind when you think of setting up a business? *If A3 or A1 is available get the students to create a mind map of all their ideas. *If working in a group they may need to vote on the issues they want to focus on in the next module. First, we need to identify some of the barriers that young people face that stop them considering setting up a new business. Think about the practicalities, what needs to be in place before setting up a business? What preconceptions do young people have about Entrepreneurship? What fears and concerns jump into your mind when you think of setting up a business?

9 TASK 1: The Barriers Only ‘proper grown ups’ own their own business
Its a big risk and you could end up in debt Barriers *If A3 or A1 is available get the students to create a mind map of all their ideas. *If working in a group they may need to vote on the issues they want to focus on in the next module. Its really hard work! No investment or capital to start off

10 Now, let’s remove the barriers! Think positive action
TASK 2: The Solutions Now, let’s remove the barriers! Think positive action Focus on a few ideas How will they work? *Students should pick the barriers they are most passionate about bringing down and focus on solving them. *Once they have some solutions, how can they explain them to Matt and the MKC team…..Diagram? Picture? Song? Poem? Its all about standing out from the other submissions. Now you have identified the barriers young people face, be they real or imagined, its time to start thinking how to remove them Your ideas can be anything, as long as they are a positive action Focus on no more than 3 of the problems you identified so you can be more in depth with your solutions How will young people be affected by your ideas?

11 TASK 2: The Solutions Make personal financial planning a core GCSE subject?? Pay successful young business people to tour schools with their stories Solutions Persuade FTSE 100 companies to contribute to a fund for young Entrepreneurs *Students should pick the barriers they are most passionate about bringing down and focus on solving them. *Once they have some solutions, how can they explain them to Matt and the MKC team…..Diagram? Picture? Song? Poem? Its all about standing out from the other submissions. YouTube video diaries highlighting the benefits of being your own boss

13 Create a short pitch/ presentation What should you include:
TASK 4: Spread The Word! Create a short pitch/ presentation What should you include: What is the problem? What is/are your solution(s)- REMEMBER no more than 3 Summarise your idea Explain how it will solve the problem Suggest how it can be implemented Conclusion *If there is time then this final module is a fun way for students to share their work with one another whilst also learning valuable communication skills. Even if just a few groups/individuals present it is a fun way to finish the session. For MP’s like Matt Hancock, being able to share and tell people about good ideas is almost as important as coming up with them in the first place! Public speaking is a skill very few people are born with and most find it extremely nerve wracking. However we will all at some point in our lives have to articulate our thoughts verbally to a crowd, so it is a skill that needs to be worked on and practiced. You now have a chance to prepare a short presentation/pitch to the rest of your class detailing the ideas you came up with for the challenge.

14 BODY LANGUAGE VOICE CONTENT
TASK 3: Spread The Word!
