What is eco-innovation? Eco-Innovation is any form of innovation resulting in or aiming at significant and demonstrable progress towards the goal of sustainable development, through reducing impacts on the environment, enhancing resilience to environmental pressures, or achieving a more efficient and responsible use of natural resources. 14 “European paradox” Majority of EU companies do not eco-innovate
Great majority of eco-innovators declare only incremental material efficiency improvements Strong eco-innovation performance does not automatically result in better environmental performance on the macro scale There is a high diversity of eco-innovation performance in the EU, both between countries and sectors

Action 1: Environmental policies/regulations for eco- innovation ☛ priorities: water / waste / clean-air policies Action 2: Demonstration projects & partnerships ☛ provide a transition period towards Horizon 2020 Action 3: Standards & performance targets for key goods, processes and services ☛ priority areas: waste / waste treatment /drinking water /construction materials and insulation of buildings Action 4: Finance and support services for SMEs ☛ support networks; ETV Pilot programme.

Conclusions : Cooperation between EU, MS and Stakeholders In coordination with all stakeholders and pooling efforts at Member States level: Coordinating national & EU policies for eco- innovation Identifying and exchanging “best practice” policy measures Expanding the knowledge base Eco-innovation National Roadmaps Eco-innovation Forum & Stakeholder Steering Body.
