1 A Snapshot from Mrs. King for the week of January 27-29, 2016
Reading –This week we will be starting Unit 3 in more adventures in superkids. We will associate a,e,i,o,u with long vowels and decode long-vowel trickers. Students will read contractions formed with is, am, are and will. We will read stories in our superkids books and work on comprehension questions. Memory Words: paper, even, silent, open, music Pattern Words: Contractions (he’s, she’s, it’s, I’m we’re, you’re, I’ll, he’ll, she’ll, we’ll, you’ll, it’ll) Memory words are in baggies in the students behavior folders along with the words to play memory at home. Superkids Unit 3 Spelling Test on Thursday, Feb. 4th . Books are being sent home every Monday to read at home. We are also working on these same books during reading group time. Please return the books with their baggie every Monday for a new book. Students are also completing one hour of reading groups on their reading level. This work is being sent home as a graded packet. I have also included site word rings in baggies with the books to be studying at home. These sight word levels were determined after January PALs testing. Math – This week in math we will continue studying money. Students will study the amounts for pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. This week we will be working in stations reviewing money. Our test on money will be on Friday, February 5th. Money review homework is due on Friday, February 5th. Please work with your child on these problems nightly for extra review. Science w/ Mrs. King: Students will be learning about hibernation, migration and body coverings this week. We will be discussing in class different animals that hibernate, migrate and what animals do in the winter season. Two main animals we will be discussing is Polar Bears and Penguins. We will have a test on this topic on Wednesday, Feb.3rd. (I did push the test further into the week due to the impending weather). Important Dates & Information Please check Yellow Behavior Folders each night & initial. Please check out my webpage on Montvale’s website under staff for cool games and information  Tuesday, February 2nd: 100th Day of School! Monday, February 8th: Now a school day! Friday, February 19th: Dress up like a career SCA spirit day! Friday, March 11th : End of Quarter 3 Monday, March 14th: Now a School day! Friday, March 18th : Report Cards go home; Class Pictures! Friday, March 25th: Sports SCA Spirit Day! Friday, April 8th: Tie-Dye SCA Spirit Day! The 100th day of school will be on Tuesday, Feb. 2nd! Please work with your child on a project to turn in on this day. The project needs to represent the #100.
