1 A Snapshot from Mrs. King
for the week of January 4-8, 2016 Reading – Superkids Unit 1 (Pink Units) is being sent home today and due on Monday, January 11th. In this unit students will be working on associating y with /long i/ and /long e/. Students will also work on associating ay with /long a/. Students will work on recognizing and understanding memory and pattern words. Memory Words: down, too, work, many, first Memory words are in baggies in the students behavior folders along with the words to play memory at home. Superkids Spelling Test on Monday, January 11th. Books are being sent home every Monday to read at home. We are also working on these same books during reading group time. Please return the books with their baggie every Monday for a new book. Students are also completing one hour of reading groups on their reading level. This work is being sent home as a graded packet. Math – This week students will work on the topic magnitude. Students will select a reasonable order of magnitude for a given set from three given quantities: a one-digit numeral, a two-digit numeral, and a three-digit numeral (e.g., 5, 50, and 500 jelly beans in jars) in a familiar problem situation. Homework #7 is due on Friday, January 8th. Students are to do one column each night to review previous math skills. Please work with your child on these problems nightly for extra review. Social Studies w/ Mrs. King: *Students will no longer be switching for science & social studies* This week in social studies we will be studying patriotic practices and symbols. Students will learn about the American Flag, The Bald Eagle, The Washington Monument and The Statue of Liberty. Students will complete a booklet today in class that would be a great study guide for students test. IA Test on Wednesday, January 6th. Important Dates & Information Please check Yellow Behavior Folders each night & initial. Please check out my webpage on Montvale’s website under staff for cool games and information  Monday, January 11: Report Cards Go Home Friday, January 15: Winter Carnival! Monday, January 18: MLK Jr. Day! No School! Tuesday, January 26: 100th Day of School if no snow! The 100th day of school will be on Tuesday, Jan. 26th if we miss no school days! Please work with your child on a project to turn in on this day. The project needs to represent the #100.
