1 Literary Terms: Plot The Rogue Wave

2 Plot: is what happens in a story.

3 Basic Situation (Exposition): First part of the plot that tells about the story and characters.

4 Conflict: A struggle between opposing characters or forces.

5 External Conflict: a character struggle against another person, group or force of nature.

6 Internal Conflict: struggle within a person’s mind (ie: shyness, acceptance of death).

7 Foreshadowing A hint at future events.

8 Rising Action: series of events that take place making it difficult for the character to get what he/she wants.

9 Climax: the story’s most emotional or suspenseful moment.

10 Resolution (Denouement): the last part of the story
Resolution (Denouement): the last part of the story. The loose ends of plot are tied up and the story ends.

11 Characterization: the process by which the writer reveals the personality of a character.
