Mrs. Hebel’s 1st Grade Island Times October 10, 2016 – October 14, 2016 ext. 4115 Special Schedule Monday, 10/10 – No School Tuesday, 10/11 – Library Wednesday, 10/12 – P.E. Thursday, 10/13 – Music Friday, 10/14 – Library Upcoming Events Monday, October, 10, 2016 No School Friday, October 21, 2016 2:30pm Dismissal Exercise Club – Thursdays and Fridays-8:50am Hot Topics Math – We will finish Unit 1 this week. Students will continue to solve and record solutions for subtraction story problems. They will play subtraction games and write subtraction number sentences. Unit 1 test will be on Thursday and Friday. Fundations – This week we will begin Unit 3 Week 1. Students will learn about consonant digraphs. A consonant digraph is two consonants together that make one sound. (ie. ch, sh) . The Unit 3 letter will guide you through this new skill. Homework will be due Friday. Scholastic Online Code: HZZ2K NEWS Team of the Week – Congratulations to BLUE team for earning the most tallies by working together as a team. Way to go!!!! Sight Word practice – If your child brings this home, please have them practice reading the highlighted words and sentences on a nightly basis. I will test them on Friday to see if they have mastered words. Reading homework – Beginning Monday, October 17th, students will begin to bring books home to read for homework. Please have your child read this book with you and complete attached activity. The activity is due Friday. This reading time can be included on their weekly reading log. Homework – Please write a note if your child does not understand homework. I never want to have tears at home. I can help them with it the next school day. Writing - Students will hear a story called: When I Was Five . In this story a six-year-old boy reflects on how he’s changed since he was five. One thing hasn’t changed for the boy, his friend. Students will write a “My friend and I.” sentence and learn to add more details to their writing. They will illustrate and add details. Students will reread their writing , have it edited and share their writing with the class on Friday.
