5 Key drivers for responsible procurement at the University of Manchester are:
To support our commitment to Social Responsibility To strive to have a positive impact through our spend – by reducing negative impacts and enhancing positive impacts To take a meaningful lead as the largest UK university We may refer to this as Responsible Procurement but it is really just excellent procurement.

6 The Central Procurement Team are:
Making sustained progress on the Flexible Framework* Delivering responsible procurement through their procurement process and practice Supporting devolved procurers across the institution Developing our supply chain to support our progress as well as their own *The Flexible Framework is a recognised mechanism to embed sustainable procurement within Higher Education with 5 levels.

7 Making sustained progress on the Flexible Framework
The Flexible Framework help us to embed sustainability into our procurement process and practice We progressed to Level 4 in just 6 months during 2015 We have recently published our first Annual Report what not have a look (add link) We are now working to achieve Level 5 on the Flexible Framework by the end of 2017 We have been sharing our approach with the wider HE sector through workshops and presentations

8 Delivering Responsible Procurement through process and practice
All Central Procurement Team staff have had advanced training on responsible procurement as part of our professional development All our process and practices were reviewed and updated to embed responsible procurement it is core to our procurement practice We are now working to demonstrate progress against our targets and supporting devolved procurers and suppliers

9 Supporting devolved procurers:
Our webpages provide support for internal procurers Our guidance documents support staff to make more responsible purchasing decisions We approve suppliers to make responsible procurement easier We are providing training and support to key groups across the organisation We work with the Environmental Sustainability team to help capture data that demonstrates our impact

10 Developing our Suppliers:
All our suppliers are given access to an online tool that helps them plan their own sustainability action plans We use the data this tool provides as part of our contract management process and also to inform the provision of further support We focus on supporting local businesses and SME’s as part of our approach

11 Making progress Our current targets (2015/16) are to: Achieve and maintain Level 5 on the Flexible Framework Host a supplier event focussing on Responsible Procurement – developing our approach from supplier assessment to supplier development Support and report on the collective impact of 10,000 staff all aiming to procure responsibly Continue to support our colleagues in the sector
