Project Activity 2012 January February MarchApril May JuneJuly August SeptemberOctober November December -Carry out a prioritisation methodology exercise on national frameworks due for renewal 2012 to identify key frameworks for SPCE to support/assist. -Continue to build a network of sustainability contacts within the sector both HEI's and external organisations. -Explore the opportunity to include sustainability information in all framework buyers' guides. -Support and provide assistance to the Hefce carbon target and strategy project focussing on scope 3 emissions. -Investigate barriers and solutions to videoconferencing in the sector. Promotion of JANET's JVCS including case studies, best practice, presentations and videos. Capture and share organisational and individuals' experiences of videoconferencing. -Co-ordinate the roll out of NSPPP 1 day module development session via Higher Education purchasing consortia and EAUC. Develop the session into a webinar and e- learning tool for end users. -Review and update AUPO vendor questionnaire ensuring compliance with EU directives. -Establish and Co-ordinate a Northern sustainability group (possibly two) to compliment Southern SP Groups. The chair/s to feed activity and info into SPCE and in turn SPCE to other SP groups. -Support Green Gown Awards 2012. Judge application for sustainable procurement (plus 1 additional) category. Run a master class for sustainable procurement. -Set up and facilitate quarterly networking sustainability workshops. Workshops will be commodity specific and relevant to Higher Education and the national agenda for sustainability. -Capture best practice case studies via institutional sustainable procurement projects and upload/promote via SPCE website. -Continue to develop Efficiency Measurement Model best practice examples and disseminate to the sector. -Continue to raise awareness of the Flexible Framework and provide assistance to consortia and institutions to encourage progress. Investigate a process for capturing the sector's progress on the FF in order to identify barriers and solutions.

Procurement Process This theme focuses on embedding sustainability into the procurement process 1.Expenditure analysis undertaken and key sustainability impacts identified 2.Detailed expenditure analysis undertaken, key sustainability risks assessed and used for prioritisation 3.All contracts assessed for general sustainability risks. Targets to improve sustainability are agreed with key suppliers 4.Detailed sustainability risks assessed for high impact contracts. A life-cycle approach is adopted 5.Life cycle analysis is undertaken for key areas, and best practice shared with other organisations

Engaging Suppliers This theme focuses on making your organisation open and transparent to suppliers 1.Key supplier spend analysis undertaken and suppliers targeted for engagement 2.Detailed supplier spend analysis undertaken and supplier engagement initiated, with senior management involvement 3.Targeted supplier engagement programme in place, including two-way communication between procurer and supplier 4.Key suppliers identified for intensive development, sustainability audits and supply chain improvement programmes are in place 5.Suppliers recognised as essential to organisations sustainable procurement policy and best practice shared.

13. Measurements and Results Reporting on compliance with this theme is mandatory. The aim is to not only measure the impacts of actions taken to increase sustainable procurement but also to demonstrate the results arising from these actions. 1.Key sustainability impacts of procurement activity identified and 2. Detailed appraisal of the sustainability impacts of the procurement activity has been undertaken and the embed level achieved 3.Sustainability measures refined from general departmental measures to include individual procurers and are linked to development objectives. 4.Measures are integrated into a balanced score card approach reflecting both input and output and comparison to peer organisations made. 5.Measures used to drive organisational sustainable development strategy direction and progress formally benchmarked with peer organisations.
