2 NOUNS COUNTABLE Nouns that can be counted. e.g. stones,cats etc
UNCOUNTABLE Nouns that cannot be counted. e.g. sand,salt etc Non-count nouns do not have a plural form ; however, some nouns can be used in both the count and non-count sense: I have a lot of experience. / I have a lot of experiences. PLURAL:The plural form is used when considering more than one person , place, animal or thing. E.g. hens,chicks etc SINGULAR:The singular form is used when considering one person,place,animal or thing.E.g. hen,chick etc.

3 Let’s learn the rules Add singular + -s a car two cars a cassette
plural a car two cars a cassette two cassettes a lamp two lamps a hat two hats a cup two cups

4 a sandwich two sandwiches a suitcase two suitcases a rose two roses
2. Add -es after singular nouns ending with –x,-sh,-s,-ss, - ch Add only –s after singular nouns ending with -e EXAMPLES SINGULAR PLURAL a box two boxes a sandwich two sandwiches a suitcase two suitcases a rose two roses a garage two garages a brush two brushes a glass two glasses A bus two buses

5 Complete the following: Look at the pictures and write the singular and plural form

6 3.Add –es to nouns ending with -o to form plurals
SINGULAR PLURAL buffalo Buffaloes mango Mangoes potato potatoes However ,some nouns that end in –o form their plural the normal way by adding –s. SINGULAR PLURAL photo Photos piano pianos

7 4.Nouns ending in –f and –fe,change -f/-fe Into -ves.
SINGULAR PLURAL knife knives leaf Leaves wolf wolves However,some words ending in –f/-fe form their Plural the normal way , by adding –s. SINGULAR PLURAL chief chiefs dwarf dwarfs

8 5.Nouns ending in a consonant –y , change –y into –ies.
SINGULAR PLURAL baby Babies fairy Fairies pony ponies However nouns ending in a vowel + y, add only –s to form the plural form. SINGULAR PLURAL key Keys boy boys

9 A few nouns form their plural by changing the inside vowel
Or vowels of the singular. SINGULAR PLURAL foot Feet goose Geese man Men louse Lice tooth Teeth mouse mice washer man washer men
