1 Singular and Plural Nouns

2 A singular noun names one person, place, thing, or idea.
A plural noun names more than one person, place, thing, or idea.

3 To form the plural of most nouns, just add -s.
cups desks hands fossils toys cats plates hands jaws bears papers pencils drums eyes legs shoes

4 When the singular ends in s, sh, ch, x, or z, add -es.
address - addresses dish - dishes church - churches fox - foxes buzz - buzzes match - matches class - classes

5 When the singular ends in o, add, -s.
stereo - stereos radio - radios solo - solos piano - pianos EXCEPTIONS echoes, heroes, potatoes, tomatoes

6 When the singular noun ends in y, with a consonant before it, change the y to i and add -es.
butterfly - butterflies army - armies diary - diaries country - countries treaty - treaties family - families

7 Chief - chiefs calf - calves safe - safes shelf -shelves
For most nouns ending in f or fe, add -s. For some nouns ending in f or fe, however, change the f to v and add -es. Chief - chiefs calf - calves safe - safes shelf -shelves roof - roofs leaf - leaves belief - beliefs life - lives cuff - cuffs wife - wives self - selfs loaf - loaves reef - reefs wolf -wolves

8 Some nouns are the same for both singular and plural.
deer sheep trout moose bass

9 Some nouns form their plurals in special ways.
Child - children tooth - teeth man - men goose - geese mouse - mice foot - feet

10 Write the plural for each of the following nouns
tooth class trout match box country monkey drum tomato auto leaf woman
