8. How to See Your Counselor

To make an appointment, students should come to Guidance before & after school, or during lunch.
Drop in visits are available during both lunches, before and after school -no pass necessary!
An “on-call” response counselor is available everyday for walk-in students and parents.

9. All 2700 students (9-12 grade) will be seen by
the counselors in the classroom setting
(English and Social Studies classes) first semester and one-on-one during registration 2nd semester.
Every student will make a four year plan for graduation and college.

10. DROPPING CLASSES
Once the student attends class, moving from an Honors level class to a Regular level class is only granted at the end of the quarter and is based on severity of academic struggle and availability.
Students can drop a class until the Friday of the 10th week
After the 10th week all dropped classes receive an “F” on the transcript

11. Graduation Requirements All credits should be completed at Mountain Pointe unless prior approval and signatures have been gathered from counselor or registrar.

12. University Requirements
Required 16 high school core courses – completed with cumulative 3.0 grade point average in each subject area:
4 years of English (no Communication classes)
4 years of Math (Algebra 1-2, Geometry, Algebra 3-4 & Pre-Calc, Honors Trig, or Calculus)
3 years of Lab Science (Chem/Physics, Biology 1-2, Chemistry, Biotech, Anatomy/Physiology or Physics)
2 years of Social Studies (American History and one other)
2 years of Foreign Language (must be 2 years of the same language)
1 year of Fine Art (designated Music, Art or Drama classes)
Assured Admission Requirements:
Top 25% of graduation class and completion of ALL 16 core requirements with a 3.0 GPA in each core area. (SAT Reasoning or ACT score must be on file)

14. Preparing for College Take college prep courses and do well in them.
Get involved. Find activities or sports you like in school.
Make a list of colleges you might consider attending.
Think about what kind of career you may want in the future.
Talk to people working in interesting careers and find out what they like and don’t like about their work.
Talk to your parents/guardians about paying for college and if there is a plan. If you do not have a plan, begin planning NOW!
Start looking for summer programs offered by colleges and universities that would prepare you for life in college or give you a head start.
Visit ASU, U of A, and NAU. Take a campus tour and talk to admissions representatives.
