Four-year program Course of Study Computer Programming (VB.net, C#, SAS, AP Java) Applications/Web Development/Video Production Smaller Learning Community (cohort) Integrated Soft Skills Training Meets NC standard course of study Affiliated with the National Academy Foundation (NAF) Only available to students assigned to Apex High School

4 Who is AOIT for 90 rising 9th grade students (only freshmen are admitted) Students who are at grade level Students who enjoy working with technology Students who want Life experiences while in high school Career & College preparation Learn how to communicate and work in teams If performing arts is a priority, there are often scheduling conflicts and we ask that you only apply if AOIT will be first choice Parents and students willing to make a four Year commitment.

12 AOIT Internships Required for AOIT graduation
Minimum 135 hours – 1 elective credit Completed between junior/senior years May start junior year, must be done by May of senior year Involves the use of technology Must be compensated Perhaps you or your company can help? Assistance with finding placement, but responsibility is on student/parents

14 Additional Elective Courses
Suggested Electives for AOIT Students: Computer Engineering 1 Computer Engineering 2 Network Engineering 1 Cisco Network Engineering 2 Cisco Students may take other electives such as AP, courses, foreign languages, art, etc. (Chorus and Band(not Marching Band) are hard to schedule) No conflicts with sports or clubs

15 AOIT Advisory Board Part of NAF model
Made up of volunteers from local businesses Monthly meetings Assist with internship placement Serve as guest speakers, curriculum advisors, etc. Provide real world work and problem solving opportunities. Provide other assistance as needed Membership is open

16 AOIT Academy Support Team
Parents, students, community members Officers are elected Volunteers welcome Provide AOIT support Fundraising – Technology for core classes, offset the cost of OLE Social events

17 AOIT How to Apply Only student assigned to Apex HS as their base school can apply. Application online at Available 2/1/17, due 3/31/17 Essay – completed by the student(part of the application) Teacher/counselor s for recommendations All students who are at grade level, apply, and are assigned to AHS are entered into the lottery pool

18 Application Timeline Applications are due 03/31/17
Recommendations sent to teachers/counselors on/before April 15th AOIT lottery will be done by May 15th with only students assigned to AHS Notifications, including wait-list, will be sent by May 22nd

19 Course Registration Register as if you are NOT an AOIT student
Include Principles of Information Technology as an elective Schedules will be changed to enroll students into AOIT course sections
