2 Who Are Resident Assistants?
RA Recruitment Interest Session (14-15) Who Are Resident Assistants? RAs are student staff members whom are expected to play a variety of constantly changing roles and are responsible for creating and maintaining a residential environment that is conducive to living and learning. Each RA must be flexible and creative in meeting the residents’ needs by serving as a: role model mediator university resource advisor community developer programmer educator mentor friend Resident Assistants are students selected on the basis of leadership, experience, scholarship, and the desire to help residents realize their potential for self-development through group living. They are representatives of Apartment Residence Life and the Housing Office and serve as official staff members of the University. RAs are responsible for developing a community environment that fosters academic success, community, and campus engagement. RAs should be role models for residents and show genuine care and concern for the students who live on campus. The key to a Resident Assistant's success is finding the balance between their role in the classroom, within their designated community or communities, and the community at large. Resident Assistants are expected to assign priority to their RA position over all other non-academic activities.
