3 WHAT IS A RESIDENT ASSISTANT? A Resident Assistant (RA) is a student staff member that resides in a Longwood-managed living community to ensure the safety and well being of their residents. RAs host programs for their residents, community, and the campus. RAs provide assistance with emergencies, conflicts, facilities issues, and general student needs.

4 WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO BE AN RA? Hold a leadership position on campus Development of a variety of transferable skills that are appealing to graduate schools and employers. A fun and exciting work environment with supportive professional staff supervisors. The opportunity to be a part of one of the longest running traditions at Longwood!

6 WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME? Room Stipend/Housing The RA’s room is paid for by RCL for fulfilling their job requirements and duties Board/Meal Plan Block 160 + $300 for Main Campus RAs Block 80 + $300 for Apartments RAs

10 ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS GPA Cumulative must be at least 2.5 or higher You cannot have an active judicial record This includes probationary periods You must be able to commit to a FULL year in the position This disqualifies students who will be student teaching, studying abroad, playing a varsity sport, or partaking in a rigorous academically required internship.

11 THE PROCESS The Application www.longwood.edu/RCL Select Employment Opportunities (on the left) New RA Application Fill out and Submit online Must have your references complete a reference check You will need an RA reference – this can be ANY CURRENT RA Don’t wait until the last minute to ask for references Due by November 30 th 2015 at 12pm

12 REQUIRED TRAININGS Spring Training and Leadership Workshop (STLW) April 10 th 2016 Fall Training and Leadership Workshop (FTLW) August 2016 Winter Training and Leadership Workshop (WTLW) January 2017 Intro To Residence Life (IRL) Class Fall 2016

13 INTERVIEW PROCESS INDIVIDUAL  Taking place January, 19 th – 22 nd 2016.  Snow/Inclement Weather make-up dates: January, 25 th - 29 th 2016  You will sign up for a time slot during one of the interview days  Instructions will be emailed via Longwood email to all qualifying candidates  You will be interviewing with a professional staff member of RCL GROUP  Taking place on January 23 rd 2016  You will be given more information on the specific times closer to this date  You will be doing group activities while being observed by a panel of current RAs and professional staff members

15 WHAT COULD HAPPEN POST INTERVIEWS? ONE OF THREE THINGS.. 1. RA Offer Extended 2. RA Application is Kept Active 3. Other Opportunities to Explore

16 DESK AIDE (DA) Staffs the front desks in residence halls and apartment communities Responsible for the security and safety of the residents of all Longwood-managed communities Uphold all residence hall policies and the Longwood Code of Conduct

17 WHO CAN BE A DA? Upperclassmen Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher On campus DA Federal Work Study Apartment DA College Work Study/Regular Hourly Pay Not Funded by the Federal Government Applications for this position will be available later in the in the Spring 2016 Semester
