EQUIPMENT-BIBS-LIFT TICKETS-WEATHER CANCELLATIONS  Equipment – Helmets with hard sides are required for all on- snow training and competition. Each athlete is responsible for providing appropriate ski equipment and clothing. Arrowhead provides gates, drills, radios and other equipment needed for practices and races.  Bibs and Lift Tickets – A race bib will be assigned to each racer. These will be handed out prior to each race and RETURNED after the event. Lift tickets are purchased by the team, so it is very important for racers to be on time so we know exactly how many tickets to purchase. Racers who arrive after 5:15 will be responsible for purchasing their own lift ticket.  Weather and Cancellations – In case of inclement weather or cancellations we will post to Statwack.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE TEAM Team Challenges  Team is growing.  Can only race a total 40 skiers with exhibition racers at each race  Team tried to race the entire team last year – it had its own challenges. Practices were tough for everyone  HH will limit the number of athletes allowed for practice Mon nights  Coaches were faced with shifting to a cut sport…..we have created another option.

WHAT IS NEXT FOR THE TEAM What will change for 2016/2017  Arrowhead will establish a race team and development team this year  Varsity, JV Red and JV Conference skiers are on this years race team. All incoming freshman and last years JV Blue teams will need to try out to see which team they are on  Expecting openings on the race team for 6 to 12 spots.

LET’S TALK DEVELOPMENT TEAM THE BENEFITS WHY We can only race and practice about 40 to 44 in our current status. We cannot practice a full team, the biggest reason….we do not want to cut. WHO: Anyone who does not make a Varsity or JV team slot and/or would like develop their skill as a skier and racer, with possibly of skiing on the Varsity or JV teams in future years. WHAT: Opportunity to develop and refine skills while being part of the team. Opportunities to still race but this will be outside of conference races. Practice still with be race based with gates. WHERE: Little Switzerland Thurs nights from 6pm to 8pm. Tentative practice dates are as follows; Dec 22 nd, Dec 29 th, Jan 5 th, Jan 12 th, Jan 19 th, Jan 26 th, Feb 2 nd, Feb 9 th, Feb 16 th, Feb 23 rd HOW: Register and Sign up for the team, prep for the year with drylands, attend try out, improve and have fun….and be a part of the team BENEFITS: Dedicating coach for development team, up to 10 practices, season pass so ski anytime racing at JT Memorial plus other opportunities.

La Crosse on February 17, 18, 19, 20 2017. AHS is the 5 time defending Women’s champions. The Men are defending champions.

EXPECTATIONS Skiing is simple; we are the ones who make it too complicated. Boiled down into 3 most important elements 1. If you are making turns too round, you are going slower. Going straight can present problems. But, really, you want to take the straighter line. 2. You want to be carving instead of sliding 3. You want to pressure your skies in the fall line GS Five Basic Elements 1. Good lateral balance 2. Independent foot action for active weight transfer 3. Much more movement forward to carve all the way from the tip to the tail 4. Skiing around the gates (making clean turns around them instead of skiing through them) 5. And, with the stiffer GS skies of today, having the strength and endurance to race on them. SL Six Basic Elements 1. Balance and an athletic stance, so the skier can move in any direction at any time 2. Skiing outside ski to outside ski 3. Maintaining a stable upper body 4. A commitment to maintain the skis’ contact with the snow 5. Early leg engagement, particularly in the ankle and lower leg, which allows racers to pressure their skis in the fall line 6. A good pole plant for recovery, rhythm and timing.

GOALS GOALS SIMPLIFIED  What do you want to do? (goal)  Why do you want to do it ? (motivation to take action)  What will you do ? (take action to reach it)  What will not help you reach that goal (obstacle)

Arrowhead Alpine Team Ethos To have our coaches, athletes and parents always set a positive example…. First with our character, then with our racing. To properly represent our school, our code, our teammates and parents. To keep the sport of Alpine racing fun, safe and competitive. It is how we win that matters more than if we win. One Team.

Values Planning: Think before you act. Look to the future. Always be prepared. Be accountable. Determination: Never give up. Be involved. Drive to meet your goals and objectives. Discipline: Each day, be organized and prompt. Focus on details. Engaged: Be supportive and accessible. Be mindful. Take initiative. Ask Questions. Sincerity: Be true. Be positive. Be inclusive. Be helpful. Be a mentor. Lead. Respect: Treat others as if someone you care about is watching….because they probably are. Courage: Know what not to fear.
