Boys Spring Track 2017 Coach Gilhuley Boys Head Coach

2 Time Commitment Attendance at all practices and meets is mandatory. You will not be excused for club/recreation practices or competitions! The 2017 season begins with practice on March 3rd. Practices generally run from 2:45 - 5:15 (Monday - Friday) and 9:00 - Noon (Saturday). Members are required to be at every scheduled practice Monday - Saturday. All members of the team are expected to participate, practice or compete up to and including May 27th. Please note that the spring recess takes place during April as we are both competing and training. It is vital to our team’s success and the individual health of our students that they are present during this time period. All students signing up for Spring Track must be aware and agree to make this commitment.

4 Communication It is always the athletes responsibility to communicate directly to his coach. The students must learn to listen at practices, check Edmodo and the website for announcements. Every piece of information is not posted on our website; however it is an excellent resource. If an emergency should arise and the athlete cannot communicate personally with the coach, he may leave a note on Coach Gilhuley’s desk (Rm:511) or utilize her at: The athlete should never fail to communicate! All Information will be posted on EDMODO Group Code: hbw5sr

5 Paperwork PHYSICALS GUIDE:
All student athletes must have a physical, which is to be completed on the School Physician’s form. No student may practice without a fully completed physical examination form handed in and reviewed/approved by the school physician. Students who have had a physical for the Fall or Winter season must fill out an “Update “form only. These forms are available in the Athletic Office, from the Coach or at the school website: Physical Form packets are due to the Athletic Office by Feb. 3rd! GUIDE: The last page of the parent/athlete guide must be handed in to Coach Gilhuley!

7 Equipment SHOES/CLOTHING
Be sure to wear appropriate shoes and clothes. All athletes regardless of event should be training in a running training shoe. Not a cross trainer.   All athletes need to learn to dress in layers. This is especially important as we can experience a wide variety of weather in New Jersey. Extra clothing should always be at school. Do not show up to practice in shorts and a t-shirt everyday. If you want to be a top athlete you need to treat your body like one. All runners on the team should have a wristwatch with a stopwatch function to help during training.

8 Preparations Those of you not on a winter sport or finishing up soon should be preparing yourself by working out.  The weight room is open daily after school from 2:30 - 4:00 PM and you can run ANY DAY and ANYWHERE! If you need suggestions, I can help you! I coach!  Most injuries we see in early season are due to low levels of general fitness.

9 Try Outs On Saturday March 4th we will be having a tryout. All athletes must be cleared by this date to participate. If you do not meet the try out standard, you will be placed in a general fitness group to prepare you for the demands of our program. Standards: Sprints: 400=68 seconds Distance: 1600=6min Throws: 3 attempts to throw a 15lb MB 20’
