Turn to page 161.  On the Ancient China Map-label the following:  Label and shade in the Huang River Valley.  Label the Yellow Sea, Bay of Bengal, Himalayas, Haung He (Yellow) River, and Gobi Desert.  On the Ancient China/World Map-shade in China-outline the Huang (Yellow) River in blue

2  Why is the Yellow river often referred to as “the river of sorrow?”  Why did the Chinese call themselves the Middle Kingdom?  List 2 Chinese inventions.

4  The water looks yellow from its silt  Huang He is Chinese for Yellow River  It is unpredictable and has terrible flooding  Often called “River of Sorrow”
