2 Step 1: Observe the sentence Read the sentences below. Write down any observations that you notice on a sheet of notebook paper. My furry black cat watched as the helpless little bird fluttered outside the window.

3 Step 2: Identify the adjectives Read the sentences below. Write down any observations that you notice on a sheet of notebook paper. My furry black cat watched as the helpless little bird fluttered outside the window.

5 Step 3: Define the terms Based on the observations you have made from the sentence define the term “adjective.”

6 Step 3: Define the terms An adjective’s job is to modify a noun or pronoun. Adjectives are always near the noun or pronoun they are describing. Adjectives can show appearance, color, condition, feelings or emotions, and more. Ex: red shoes, handsome gentleman, scary house

7 Step 4: Let’s Practice Identify the adjectives in the sentences below: The long train had fancy writing on the caboose. The black cat slunk down dark alley. Sally lost the important document on her long walk to school.

9 Step 4: Let’s Practice There are surprise bags placed around the classroom. Split into several small groups. Spend several minutes writing a list of adjectives for what you find in each bag. Make sure you don’t show the other groups what you find in the bag! Remember, adjectives tell appearance, color, condition, feelings, and emotions.

15 Step 4: Let’s Practice In your groups, complete the adjective or adverb handout. Once you are finished, write 10 adverbs on the notecards. Once you have finished writing your adverbs, write 10 sentences stating activities you complete in a day. Wait for further instructions.
