6. So what is a direct object? (DO)  The noun or pronoun that receives the action of the verb  The subject does the verb to the DO  The DO will come after the verb  S + V + DO  Not every verb has a DO

7. How to find the DO in a sentence  Find the verb and the subject  Read the sentence up to the verb  Then ask “what?” or “whom?”

8. Example  Andrea needed the batteries for an experiment. 1. Andrea needed 2. Andrea needed what? 3. Batteries=DO

9. Example 1. The art teacher displayed his students’ paintings in the hall. 2. The art teacher displayed 3. The art teacher displayed what? 4. paintings=DO
